The trip was long but at least they had jobs to go to and somewhere to live even if it was small. They each had one suitcase half filled with clothes and a life they were leaving behind. Once they were left in the by the side of a dusty road on the outskirts of a small country town Barbara walked with Ian to their new home, unconsciously holding onto his hand as she had done so many times before. Their real estate agent waited at the door of their new home to hand them a set of keys. He wished the newly weds ever lasting happiness then left them to it.

"It seems I've missed my own wedding," Barbara said with a sigh as she put the suitcase down in the middle of the almost empty lounge room and chuckled a little. She was tired and felt dirty from all their traveling.

"I'll try harder." Which he did by cupping her cheek to tilt her head up and leaning down to kiss her.

Barbara moaned softly in pleasure as he kissed her. Her fingers slipped between his locking them together.

"That's a little closer to a distraction," she said quietly, eyes half closed.

He smiled. "Only closer?" he asked, but kissed her again.

Barbara felt herself pressing closer to Ian as the kiss lengthened. The room span gently, she felt as though she had to latch on to Ian to stop herself from falling. Her hands moved to wrap around his shoulders, which only pulled him closer to her and when the kiss ended, she didn't move far away, choosing instead to stay within kissing distance.

"I think that a third analysis might suffice."

"If you say so." Not that he was complaining. As they kissed he moved his hand round to the back of her head, tangling his fingers in her hair and keeping her close. If he'd know that kissing Barbara would be as good as this he'd have done it long ago. Except that they hadn't really been in a position to do much of it.

When the kiss ended, Barbara merely smiled at Ian. A small part of her wished that they could go further but they had plenty of time for that since they were sharing a home for the rest of their lives.

She was a little breathless. Her fingers softly rubbed at his shoulders. "That was certainly more distracting. I look forward to more of it."

"There'll be plenty more of that in our future." While he was kissing her it was so tempting to go further, but when he wasn't the nervousness about it kicked in. They were better off going slowly - it wasn't as if there was any rush.

"Perhaps we should go to bed." Although he didn't quite let go of her yet, and blushed as he realised how that could be construed. "I mean so we can get a good night's sleep before school tomorrow."

Nerves overcame Barbara before Ian clarified and she too blushed. "Yes, we really should," she waited to see if Ian was going to let go of her for a long moment, "...I may need you to let go for a short moment while we change into our pyjamas and get comfortable in bed. For sleeping."

He chuckled and let go of her. "You go up first, I'll check the house is all locked up." Not that they owned anything worth stealing.

"Alright," Barbara replied and stood up from the sofa only to lean back down and kiss the top of Ian's head. Then it was only a matter of changing into her pyjamas before Ian wanted to do as much.

Once she had done that much, she called out: "I'm done," and went into the bathroom to clean her teeth.

It was an odd situation, to be sharing a bedroom, but unable to get changed at the same time. But they'd have to work their way up to that too. So when Barbara was finished changing, Ian did so, and when she'd finished in the bathroom he went to clean his teeth too.

Barbara smiled as he entered the room and brushed a hand across his back as she left. Then it was simply a matter of sliding under the covers and getting comfortable while she waited for Ian.

Ian wasn't long and on the way back he turned off the bedroom light. At which point it was lighter than he'd expected, this not being a place with many street lights. He then had to feel his way gingerly to the bed, but still managed to bump into it.

After that it was easier to get in, but wasn't so sure how to lie in it. It wasn't a big bed, so if he tried not to touch Barbara at all he was right on the edge. But he said, "Goodnight," and hoped he'd sleep.

Barbara shifted away from Ian a little more. She hoped that as time progressed they'd get closer and more comfortable with one another.

"Goodnight," Barbara said.

It took a short while for Barbara to fall asleep but her dreams were dark and full of terror. She awoke suddenly in the early morning, a light sweat making her feel a touch clammy. She sat up in bed, panting and glancing at the shadows on the walls while the frightening images slowly slunk away from her thoughts.

She looked toward Ian, aware that cuddling was not something he had wanted to do while they were sleeping but she wanted that contact, that comfort. Carefully, Barbara slipped back down under the covers, gently draped an arm over his waist, and rested against his back.

The movement of Barbara sitting up in bed had vaguely woken Ian up. He was still trying to work out quite where he was and what was going on when Barbara lay back down and put an arm round him.

Sleepily he asked, "What is it?" and yawned. He didn't move away from her, though - not that he really had any space to.

"Just silly dreams. I can move back if you don't want me so close," she said. Not that she made any effort to do as much right away.

He mumbled something that could be interpreted either way, and fell back to sleep.

Barbara stayed where she was and listened to Ian's breathing slow down again as he drifted off to sleep. She stayed awake and thought on several different things until light began to seep in between the curtains. She figured that it as time enough to get out of bed and pull together some kind of breakfast for the two of them.

Barbara getting up woke Ian up, much as he was loathe to. The light from outside told him it was morning and he couldn't get back to sleep for thinking about school. So he got up, put his dressing gown on and yawned as he headed downstairs, hoping for some tea to wake him up.

The jug had boiled just a Ian was entering the kitchen. Barbara had out cereal, milk, bowls, spoons and the tea things on the table.

"Good morning," she said tiredly once she'd caught sight of him, "the kettle has just boiled if you'd like some tea."

"Morning." Ian smiled at her and ran a hand through his hair, which was sticking up. "I would love a cup." He set about pouring himself some tea. "Sleep well?"

Barbara smiled at his hair - not that hers was any better. "Not as well as I'd have liked. Maybe it will be better tomorrow. What about you?"

"Took me a while to get to sleep, but once I was I was dead to the world." He took his tea over to the table. "Did I dream it or did you wake up in the night?"

"I did," she replied quietly and tried to smile, "sorry. I had a silly dream and just wanted a hug after. I won't do it in the future if you don't like it."

"I don't mind." He sipped at his tea and smiled. He quite liked the idea of cuddling in bed, it just seemed too soon for that yet. And he wasn't sure how to bring it up, so he didn't. "Nervous about school today?"
