The trip was long but at least they had jobs to go to and somewhere to live even if it was small. They each had one suitcase half filled with clothes and a life they were leaving behind. Once they were left in the by the side of a dusty road on the outskirts of a small country town Barbara walked with Ian to their new home, unconsciously holding onto his hand as she had done so many times before. Their real estate agent waited at the door of their new home to hand them a set of keys. He wished the newly weds ever lasting happiness then left them to it.

"It seems I've missed my own wedding," Barbara said with a sigh as she put the suitcase down in the middle of the almost empty lounge room and chuckled a little. She was tired and felt dirty from all their traveling.

Barbara groaned softly and leaned forward a little. "Only if you keep doing that. It feels wonderful."

He smiled and did keep doing it. "I could do it some more after our picnic and the sun's set."

"Do you promise?" she asked with a grin and an attempt at looking over her shoulder but she didn't want to upset his hands.

"I promise," he said softly, and leaned round to kiss her cheek.

"We should probably go, then," she said then stood up and turned to capture his lips with her own.

Their picnic had been staying fresh in the fridge, so Barbara got it all out before handing the now full basket to Ian.

"It's a shame that we don't have any wine," she told him, "but I'm sure that we'll live."

"We can manage without." Maybe it was just as well, as the basket would have been heavy if it had included wine. "We could get some wine for a special occasion." He put the basket down temporarily so he could put his coat on, as it would get colder once the sun set.

Barbara thought that their first day of school was fairly special but she knew what Ian meant. While he grabbed his coat, she picked up her own then held the door open for Ian.

"Have you got the keys?"

He frowned. "No, I don't." He tried his coat pockets and his trouser pockets, but neither of them yielded up his keys. "Where did I put them?" He the basket down in the hall to go and search.

Barbara went into the lounge and spied them on the coffee table. "Ian, I've found them."

Ian followed. "Oh, yes, that's where I put them." He smiled a little at his own embarrassment for forgetting. "We need to choose somewhere where the keys live, so we'll always know where they are."

"We could put a hook by the door?" Barbara suggested and walked with Ian to the door, which she then locked behind them. "Or a little telephone table with a bowl for them. How did you keep your keys before we left?"

"On the coffee table. Or the dining room table. Or sometimes in a pocket." He looked a little embarrassed at the admission. "I never could remember where I put them."

"That's all the more reason for us to have a common place," Barbara chuckled and took hold of Ian's hand again. "Especially if we're sharing one set."

"Maybe you should choose where we keep them," he said, looking over at her.

"I thought that by the door would be logical," she replied, "but I really don't mind."

The nearest hill was a short walk away from the little town, where the grass was a little longer. They had to skip over an old, rotten fence to get to it's base.

"If we do this regularly, we should get a blanket," Barbara said as they began thee ascent.

"That's a good idea. Tonight we can sit on our coats and keep each other warm." He grinned at her, then turned to look where they'd been. "There's a good view from up here." It made a nice change from the city where tall buildings often obscured the view.

"It is rather lovely," Barbara agreed and wrapped an arm around Ian's waist. "I think we're going to like living here very much," she added and kissed his cheek before letting him go so that she might spread out her coat and sit. They hadn't walked far but she was certainly ready for something to eat.

"I think we are." He put his coat down next to hers and sat on it, then reached into the basket for the sandwiches.

"Do you think it's going to be odd working together and living together?" he asked as he unwrapped a sandwich and started on eating it. Although they hadn't really seen each other during the day because they taught in different parts of the school and they'd needed to make friends with their colleagues.

"Maybe," she replie truthfully, "but we have barely left one another sine stepping onto the TARDIS. I suppose that, with Earth being somewhat more safe we might not be alright with a lack of space. We'll just have to be understanding to the other person's needs. Just like in a real marriage," Barbara added with a grin.

He smiled back. "I did get used to the idea that the only time you weren't there was because you were in trouble. Or I was."

"Now I'm here all the time. I must be safe - we must be safe," Barbara said and bit into her sandwich. She hoped that she'd never get over how amazing real food felt in her mouth.

"I feel safe." He could eat his sandwich with one hand, so put the other on Barbara's leg.

Barbara leaned her head against Ian's shoulder while she chewed and took what little comfort she needed from his warmth and touch.

"I'll keep you safe, just as you'll keep me safe."

"I'll always keep you safe," he said softly. He reached for another sandwich and then put his arm round Barbara. "I think we've chosen the best night for the sunset." The sky was turning shades of pink and red.

"It is beautiful," Barbara agreed once she'd shifted a little closer to Ian, taking full advantage of his hug, "and not a cloud in the sky. We're lucky in that sense."
