The trip was long but at least they had jobs to go to and somewhere to live even if it was small. They each had one suitcase half filled with clothes and a life they were leaving behind. Once they were left in the by the side of a dusty road on the outskirts of a small country town Barbara walked with Ian to their new home, unconsciously holding onto his hand as she had done so many times before. Their real estate agent waited at the door of their new home to hand them a set of keys. He wished the newly weds ever lasting happiness then left them to it.

"It seems I've missed my own wedding," Barbara said with a sigh as she put the suitcase down in the middle of the almost empty lounge room and chuckled a little. She was tired and felt dirty from all their traveling.

That's she certainly liked and accepted the kiss gladly. It was a little award at the table but she could cope, given that it was Ian kissing her and not someone else. When it broke off and Ian started moving back, she rested her chin on her hand and said: "are you going to keep proving to me each day that loving you is a really good idea?"

"Yes." He smiled at her. "How else am I going to convince you to marry me?"

"You could just keep kissing me, although that could be the same thing," she said and leaned I for another kiss.

He lingered close to her after this kiss, although his tea was getting cold. "If that's all the proof you need I'll keep it up." And he kissed her again.

"We need to start each morning this way," Barbara said and pushed for another kiss.

"We do." It was waking him up much better than the tea or the cereal had. "Although I'd be quite happy if we slept later and had less time for kissing in the mornings." He returned to his breakfast so he could finish off his lukewarm tea. They had plenty of time for kissing in a far more comfortable position.

Barbara thought that once they were far more comfortable together she could help him wake up early in all kinds of ways but went back to her tea rather than voicing her opinions.

"I'll bet that the sunrise would have been lovely to watch. Maybe we should do that one day. We could walk up a hill and eat a picnic breakfast while the sun rises."

That sounded nice, until you considered that it involved getting up early. But Ian didn't want to disappoint Barbara, so he said, "That does sound nice. Although perhaps not on a school day."

"Absolutely not on a school day," she agreed, well aware that Ian would probably any to go back to bed after.

Barbara stood up to put her breakfast things in the sink and start a clean up. "Or we could do sunset if you'd prefer."

He was thinking more of watching the sunrise and eating breakfast and then having a nap right there. Assuming it was warm enough, of course. "A sunset would be easier. We could do that any time."

"We could do it this evening. Might be a nice way to debrief after a long first day. We'll come here and make sandwiches." Barbara smiled at him over her shoulder.

"Yes, why not." Ian smiled back. "We probably won't have the energy for anything else this evening." Teaching was a bit different from dealing with history and aliens."

"It will be rather lovely to look up at the first few stars, too. Maybe we'll see the Doctor flashing past," Barbara said as she scrubbed and put her mug into the sink to drain.

"It's been a while since I looked at the stars from Earth," he said thoughtfully, looking out the window. "My father has a telescope." He sighed, because it wasn't as if they could borrow it.

Since she had finished washing up her mug, spoon and bowl, Barbara dried her hands and went to wrap her arms around Ian's shoulders. There wasn't anything she could say to make it better. They would both miss their families for as long as they would live.

He leaned back against her and put his hands on her arms. Knowing Barbara was there and cared made him feel a little better.

After a bit he turned a little to kiss her briefly. "I'll go and get dressed."

"Alright," she replied and smiled a little before letting him go.

In the meantime, Barbara cleaned up after Ian and went into the bathroom to clean her teeth, brush her hair and make herself look presentable without being dressed. Once Ian had finished in the bedroom, she switched with him and exited a short time later in a practical but feminine outfit.

By this time Ian was sitting on the sofa, going over his lesson plans. Although he'd put his tie on, it was loose for now.

"Now I feel like I'm going back to school, dressed like this," he said when Barbara came down.

"You look more like you're going back to school," she told him and walked casually to the sofa, "and that's half the battle."

He smiled at her. "I'm sure once I start a lesson it'll all come back to me."

"I'd be more surprised if it ever left," she replied and sat down by his side.

"Maybe it hasn't," he said, putting his lesson plans down and turning towards her. "I'm just not feeling confident about whether I remember what to do."

"You'll be fine," she said and put a hand on his knee, "you love science and you love teaching. Start a simple experiment and it will be as though you hadn't left."
