The taxi pulled up outside a rather tall and grand looking hotel. Barbara stepped out to stare upwards. There were tall buildings in London but there was something about being in a different city which made the buildings unique and fascinating. Despite how tired she felt after such a long flight, she could almost go for a walk to see some more but there would be time for that later.

A finely dressed man dashed toward the from where he had been standing next tot he doors. "Shall I take your luggage?" he asked Ian and Barbara once the cabbie, or taxi driver, had hauled it out of the boot.

"Yes, thank you," Barbara replied. She reached out. For Ian's hand and offered him a smile before they walked into the hotel lobby together.

Once they had signed in at what appeared to be a marble desk, taken the lift up to near the very top, and stepped into their room, Barbara turned to thank the man for bringing their luggage. She gave him a small tip, since she didn't have a lot of money on her, and shut the door behind him.

"Would you look at this!" she said to Ian, gesturing to the entire room. "You must be valuable to have the board so generously pay for you to stay here!"

Barbara trotted over to the window to look out, passing a bottle of champagne and a note which wished them both a happy first anniversary.

"Half past six." He leaned over to kiss her on the cheek. "Too early to be awake."

"And yet you're kissing me," she grinned in reply and sunk a little further into the pillow. "Not that I'm complaining."

He smiled at her. "That's because I'm awake." He kissed her again, this time on the forehead.

She tilted her head upwards, only just missing his lips. Barbara settled back down and waited. "And so you woke me up. I suppose that I should see to breakfast and start helping you to get ready for the day?"

"I didn't mean to. You can go back to sleep if you want." He lay back down himself.

"That all depends," Barbara propped her self up on an elbow and smoothed the sheets over his chest, "what time does the conference start and how much time does that give us?"

"It starts at 9 o'clock, so we have a couple of hours." He caught her hand and held onto it.

"And it's too early for breakfast," she added and laid down on his chest. "Let's stay here for a while."

"I like that idea." He kissed her hand, then let it go. "So what are your plans for the day?"

"Something touristy," she replied happily. "I've got a list in my handbag. The are a few museums and things around this part of the city but I might also simply lounge around here, reading books and having long, relaxing baths."

Barbara grinned at the thought. Her job wasn't exactly all that strenuous, considering that it was only supply work, but time to herself was still wonderful, when she had it.

"That sounds nice. I wish I could go with you." He would find the conference interesting and he would enjoy it, but doing something relaxing or touristy - not to mention being with Barbara - sounded better. "We'll have dinner together tonight," he promised, "and then spend the evening together." Hopefully not with him falling asleep this time.

"We can spend some time together now, not to mention breakfast." Of course, Barbara stayed where she was; Ian could make the first move.

"Yes, we can." He was still a bit sleepy, so the only movement he made was to reach up a hand and play with her hair. "I just need to wake up a bit first."

"I think I'm going to find you a gift today," Barbara as she adjusted herself so that she looked down at him, "I'm going to find something that will make you wake up faster. Like a tambourine."

He pouted at her. "I don't want a gift to wake me up."

She returned his pout with one of her own. "Why not? It's nearly breakfast time and you haven't even so much as kissed me yet."

"It's a long way from breakfast time," he protested. "And I have kissed you." He grinned and kissed her on the cheek.

Her eyebrow lifted. "That wasn't what I meant."

"Oh, no?" He lifted an eyebrow himself. "How about this." He kissed her on the other cheek.

Barbara simply rolled her eyes. "Must I do everything myself?"

"Sometimes." But he did kiss her properly, on the lips this time, tightening his arm around her to hold her close.

Barbara's hands messed with the hair on his head as the kiss deepened before it dropped to a linger.

"That's better," she smiled, gently pressing their foreheads together. "I'll consider that payment for last night's back rub."

"I didn't know it required payment. But I'll kiss you any time you want," he added in a whisper, moving his hand round to her cheek.

"It doesn't but it was as good an excuse as any to get a kiss." Barbara leaned down to kiss him again, letting herself be completely carried away by Ian and his kisses.

"So you need an excuse do you?" he said between kisses. Putting off kissing her made him want to kiss her all the more and taste her and breathe her in.
