Barbara looked out at the view as Ian put the last of their things in the car. From the front door of the little Bed and Breakfast, she could see beautiful rolling hills for miles. The last of the morning was being chased away as the sun rose higher in the sky, thawing everything out. Even the cows seemed more active on one particular hill.

"I wish we could stay for a little longer," she sighed to Ian, turning her back on it all so that it might be easier to leave. Her arms folded, one hand still held on to the key they were yet to return. "I don't suppose your car has a secret time traveling device so we can spend an extra few weeks here?"

"I would." He sounded excited about the prospect. "It would be a bit different with being weightless and the G-forces at lift-off. But it would still be going into space." That it was different would be what would make it more exciting.

Barbara loved how excited he got over somethings, and smiled a little wider at him. "What would be the first thing you would do in weightless space?"

Ian had to think about that one while he stirred their dinner. "Do a somersault in the air. And then try and catch blobs of water floating about."

Barbara pushed herself up and back until she was sitting on the bench top and crossed her legs. "And what will be the first thing you do when you get back?"

Getting back wasn't nearly as exciting a prospect. "Kiss you." He grinned, then went over to kiss her now.

"Only kiss me?" she asked, leaning forward to accept his kiss, "we could have dinner together and maybe do some dancing...go for a long walk...things like that."

"We could do all of those things," he agreed. "But they couldn't be the first thing I'd do when I got back. Unless you wanted to wait to be kissed." He leaned forward as if he was about to kiss her again, but at the last minute he stepped backwards and grinned at her before turning round and checking on dinner.

Barbara bit her lip and tried to plot how she might get him back as she hopped down from the counter. Her arms looped around Ian's waist and her lips found his neck.

"How is dinner coming?" asked Barbara quietly near his ear.

"Nearly there." He closed his eyes for a moment and put his hands on her arms as if to move here away from him, but he didn't move. "It would go a lot faster without you doing that."

"But you enjoy it so much," she told him and placed one final kiss just below his ear then moved away so that Ian could finish dinner.

Rather than standing about and watching him cook, Barbara set the table and poured them each a glass of water (since there wasn't any wine).

"I do," he agreed. "Save it for after dinner."

It just needed a few minutes under the grill to brown, and then he could dish it out onto two plates.

"We definitely need to go and buy some food tomorrow," he said, once they were both sitting down to eat.

"We can go after we come back from your parents - there's that big supermarket between there and here. We should find everything we need and it'll give us an excuse to leave if we must."

Barbara cautiously had a fork-load of macaroni. She was experienced with Ian's cooking and knew that she should expect anything. She was surprised, however, to find that it actually tasted like it was supposed to. Mostly, anyway.

"Thank you, this is delicious," she told him and leant over to kiss him briefly in gratitude before turning back to the meal.

He smiled at her. He might have experimented had he not needed to leave some food for breakfast and he had not been too hungry to wait that long. "All the meals I cook are delicious." He thought so anyway. Although he was hungry enough at the moment that he hardly had the time to taste it, the speed he was eating it at.

Barbara could have disputed that with a number of examples, such as the time he used cheese and sweet chilli sauce in a bangers and mash, but she kept it to herself. She was happy to just be eating and to be rid of their rude visitor.

"How does it feel to be found attractive by another man?" she teased after a quiet moment.

"Ugh." He shivered. "That's just not right. Nor was him making suggestive comments. "You'd think he'd have more decorum than that." He had broken in, so perhaps he had no morals at all, but even so.

"I'm not sure he had much of anything," she smirked. It was funnier now that it was over. "He had broken in and made himself tea while we had no idea of knowing."

"Mm," he agreed. "Do you suppose everyone in Torchwood is that cocky? Assuming there is anyone else and Torchwood really exists." He had his doubts about that.

Barbara thought a moment while she finished her mouthful then asked: "do you think that the Doctor is exactly like the rest of his people? Supposing there are others aside from Susan."

Ian shook his head. "I don't think you can judge a whole species just on one person. Not all humans are that alike." Although he had his last mouthful of food and considered other species. "Except for Daleks."

"Yes, Daleks have so far been all the same but perhaps our intruder was one of a kind just like the Doctor was. And for that I'm very glad. On both accounts."

Barbara sipped at her water then ate the last mouthful and sat back in her chair.

"Did he break the door's lock?" she asked after another moment of thinking.

"Not that I could see." Ian glanced over at the door, but he'd have a proper look at it later. They hadn't heard him come in either, but they hadn't been listening at the time.

"I suppose he must have had a lock pick or a skeleton key." He didn't sound worried about it because he didn't see what they could do about it. "We definitely need to save for a house."

"Or a stronger lock on the door," she sighed and stood to start clearing away the plates, "but I suppose that if he has a skeleton key, then he could get in anyway."

He finished his water and followed her to the kitchen with their glasses. "I don't think he's likely to come back." But Ian sounded hopeful about that, rather than confident.

"Well I hope not. I don't want to remember what we saw this afternoon, and I'd far rather be the only one making lines at my husband." Barbara glanced at Ian from over her shoulder while she busied herself with the washing up.

"I agree," Ian said, thinking of how suggestive Harkness had been towards Barbara. He picked up a tea towel to dry up and then paused as he reached the draining board. "He didn't direct any of that at me, did he?" It never occurred to Ian that he might have been.
